POWER LUNCH @ BARUCH COLLEGE

Power Lunch is a program that pairs adult volunteers with students in nearby public elementary schools for weekly reading and mentoring sessions at lunchtime. Mentors read one-to-one with the same student for at least one academic year. Children experience the joy of being read to and will benefit from sustained, individual attention. Baruch College students will gain the satisfaction of having a positive impact on New York City youth, as well as a meaningful and impressive activity to place on their resumes.
How Power Lunch Works
On a specified day each week, volunteers
go to a nearby elementary school, check in with the Power Lunch school coordinator,
meet their student and proceed to a designated reading space. Reading partners
commit to the program for one school year and are encouraged to continue with
the same child from year to year.
How Baruch students can get involved
Baruch students will have
the option of picking the most convenient school for them out of the over 15
participating schools in Manhattan, as well as in Brooklyn, Queens, and Northern
New Jersey. There will be an orientation on campus the last week of September.
